Well, I wasn't trying to start an argument here. I was just trying to point out that the sensor doesn't actually control the fuel. When the sensor hit the end of its range, the computer tries to bring it back by ading or subtracting fuel. If the computer keeps trying to correct and gets no response within a specified time, it sets the code.
With that said, I think I will bow out and see what jr comes up with. We probably chased him off.
If i were you i'd write some letters, if you brought the problem up to the dealer while it was on warrenty, then they said they couldnt fix it. Now that the warrenty is up they want to you to pay $300+. Somthings not right there........
The problem was originallly brought to the atttention of the Ford dealer at 9008 miles. Although I only have 25K it's 9 months over the 36 months. I did write to Ford Motor Company
Customer Relationship and yesterday received an acknowledgement that they will respond within 3 business days. I think I'll wait until I hear from them before I attempt any remedies on my own. Thanks for all the input.
Yeah, i'd wait until you get some cooperation from them. If they tell you that you have to pay, i'd call customer service and keep asking for the superiors until you get someone who will listen. It really bugs me when someone wont stand behind their product. Even if the warrenty is up now, it only has 25k on it and it shouldnt be having this problem.
jrfields,
Your problem sounds alot like the same one I am having...minus the engine codes. My truck has been to the dealership about 3 times under warrenty to get a pinging fixed and about 3 more times after my warrenty was up to fix the same problem. Well nothing has changed since then. I still have pinging and have tried everything under the moon to fix it. I looked for the octane adjust shorting bar in my truck('00 3.0L) but i dont see one. Let us know how things progress and good luck. -bass
Its amazing how far some letters to CEO's can get you. I know this is off subject, but.... Our maytag washingmachine whcih is like 4 years old, (1 yr warrenty) had the bearing go out on it. I think it was like 500$ to fix it. Parents called customer service and complained. they said they'd go half way on the parts, which still left us with about 350$ left to pay. Parents wrote letters to ALL of the CEO's and high ranking people of Maytag, bout a week later we get a phone call from one of the ceo's secratarys saying that they are going to pay for the full repair, bout a week later we got a check for the full amt.
