I followed all of the advice given in eary March about my spark knocking V10. We forced the dealer to decarbonize the engine, replace the MAS and knock sensor. With only 34005 miles the engine knocks worse than ever. It knocks every time I am running 1400rpm OD on a slight grade or light acceleration pulling a 3000# trailer. It will also knock on a moderate hill in 3rd gear. It will also knock on a moderate hill with no load or trailer in OD.
I am going to run another can of decarbonizer through a vacuum line this Saturday and see if it will help.
I have fussed enough with Ford that they are giving me a 75000 mile warranty. But that is useless if they do not know how to repair their trucks.
Boy how much I wish I had bought a V8 or a bowtie.
My V10 will spark knock if I am in to high of a gear and the rpm is under 1500.All gas motors I have had spark knock under thes conditions. The cure is I just shift down and don't worry about it.I have a stick though. I would say that you must have problem with the tranny vacum lines for sure because it is not shifting down when the motor comes under load.
I made the mistake of putting in 93 octane gas and now thats all i can use or it will knock. It's getting expensive at $1.77 a gallon.
What state are you from DJR 17? Around here you will pay that much for the 87 octane and close to $2.00 a gal for the 93! Probably going to go up thanks to opec
Ford field area service says that the kncoing is "normal" for the V10. He has no explaination as to why it took 18K before it started knocking. I have tried 93 and 89 octane and it is a waste of $. the computer has been cleared too many times to count. Yesterday I cleaned the intake using a 3M product that is suppose to remove the carbon. Also added a can of 3M fuel treatment that is to be used along with the other stuff. It is installed through the vacuum line for the brake booster. I noticed a slight improvement. I believe that I will add more fuel additive with each tank of gas and see if that helps. I don't think that it will hurt.
There is a anit-knock sensor.....V10man is right....did you try disconnecting the battery overnight to reset the computer.....Mine started to do it too....just before it shifted into 3RD. Sparkplug knock is VERY BAD!!!!!!!!! Mine was very bad in the winter on cold days....as the weather moderated it seems to have gone away....Wonder if I had some water in the fuel too.

Austin, Texas! Don't you just love the free oil we are getting from Iraq? Everytime I fill up I want to punch a democrat.
I have disconnected the battery several times overnight with no inprovement. The knock sensor is VIN OBD 2 specific. The computer has a code in the program which tells the people at Ford all about the truck. They have to "program" the knock sensor to the specific vehicle. THe knock sensor is on the starboard side in the rear of the head. The kntake has to be removed to change the sensor. I could barely see mine from under the truck. 2001 SD250 AT PB PS 4SD auto XLT.
As long as we are discussing fuel prices here, SF bay area prices are the worst!!! 2.09 for 87 octane, 2.29 for 93 octane... ....you guys got it lucky so far
