I have an '01 F-150 4x4 RC with power windows. Ever since the truck was new, the passenger side window will bind when you put it up or down. It will go down half way with no problem, then slow right down, and then speed up again when it gets to the bottom. I have had it in 3 times to get this fixed. They have replaced the window motor, the track, and this last time, they didn't do anything to it, just gave me a can of dry lube and told me to keep it lubricated. They said that ford said it was "Normal operation". Baloney. Does anyone have any ideas?
The felt tracks and window motor have supposedly been replaced. I also mentioned to them that it could be that the window itself is not the proper shape, if there was some sort of manufacturer defect that caused the window to be a different shape than it is supposed to be, but they said that they mentioned that to the ford helpline guy, and they said that was not a possibility.
Just for the record, the driver side window works fine.
I had a 93 F250, had to replace both window motors. After installing, my driver's side window was doing the same. I lubed the gear attaching to the felt, realigned the felt on the window (this took a lot of trial and error, otherwise it binds on the way up and halfway down) and glued the felt to the window. Something worked, because it stopped.
New to forum but have learned a little about the power window situation. It is interesting about many people have the same problem with the passenger window not wanting to go up and down after replacing everything. I hate going to the ford dealer because they usually take you for everything you got. The mechanic that I use gets the same computer info that the ford tech guys get. He pulled up powerwindow problem and interestingly the driver window seems to be the problem right now. Apparently ford hasn't had enough complaints to merrit making a part for the passenger window. They do however have a part for the driver side. It seems as if this should be a recall item because what is happening is the door metal is so thin that that when the motor attempts to make the window go up or down the panel actually flexes enough to make the window get in a bind. As I said they have made a stiffener for the driver side but not the passenger side. They like the piece of sheet metal to, 90 bucks in my part of the woods. Going to attempt to make my own stiffener to solve the problem tommorow.
Ya know the solution I got from my Ford dealer????? Here is a can of dry lube. Give it a squirt once in a while! Gee, thanks for coming out. I was not too happy about that fix, after all the other things they have tried. So I traded the truck in, and bought a different brand
'03 F-150 less than 4000 miles. my drivers side window goes up and down faster than my passenger side, and if it's iced up, the drivers side will break free where the passenger side won't. Guess I better get rid of it before the window sticks.
