Still Here! Been sidetracked

Hi All,
Hope everyone is doing ok. I haven't been on here too much in the last couple years. Time slips through the cracks like water. Of course, the older you get, the faster it goes.
I have been tinkering with many things. That is one of my downfalls I suppose, but that's just my way of life. It's alway's fun to dig into something that got thrown to the curb, or thrown into an auction. Bring it home for simple entertainment reasons.
I can't really explain it too well, but I'm sure many of you can understand what I am trying to say. Then there is the home projects for the kid that is now a cop, married, has 2 kids. Where did that come from? Getting old right before my eyes. Not the kid, but myself!
So I keep looking at the '49 just sit there and get neglected...Then the neighbor has a family vehicle that is on it's last leg...He is a hard working young guy, doesn't know much about anything gas powered. I can't stop myself from helping him out. "Bring it over and we'll get 'er fixed up" I guess I don't like to see people struggle, but I sure don't mind the struggle that I put myself in.
So I decided, about a month ago, it was time to clear out the other projects and focus on my beloved 1949 Ford truck project. IT'S about DAMN TIME!
Currently working on the wiring harness. I'm pretty happy to be back at it. Shoot I started with this truck in 2010....It's not done or even close...THAT'S RIDICULOUS!
I will be adding to my build thread as I progress.
I'm still thankful for the people in my life, and this forum as well!
Jeff

Jeff,
Good to hear from you! Yea, life happens sometimes and before you know it, years slip by. No worries, these trucks will wait around for you.

I know what you mean about helping out others. It seems like every weekend my time gets parceled out to everyone but me. Of course, its easier to do others chores than it is to do your own. Maybe that's because when you help others they are grateful and appreciative for what you do. When you're working on your own stuff the customer can be a real pain in the rear....LOL

Bobby

Jeff, glad you are back.

I started my 51 F1 about the same time as you did yours.

I keep thinking that I should be done by now. Not so !!!

I try to get something done each week but age and my bad back (two surgeries)
have a way of slowing me down.

Hang in there - it will get done someday.

Good to hear from you.

Take care
Dan

Good to hear from you, Jeff. Don't spend too much time beating yourself up about being kind to others. This is still a journey to be enjoyed.

Good to hear your still kicking the can down the road. Funny when I retired I thought I’d be able to knock my trucks out in no time. Years later I’m still not driving any of them. Of course body shops aren’t helping me out any either. Time does fly and helping folks and family out does get in the way but hang in there. I’m sure you’re way shy of the longest build!

Nice that you're back on track. Mine started in 2011, and has stalled out do to family, and life. I also lack motivation, big time. The boy's are getting older, and are willing to help out next summer, lol. We'll see about that. Nice to have you back, Man!

I''m pretty good at procrastination too. Had my truck since 1994, and only now starting to really tear it down after a couple starts/stops, several moves, two kids, etc. etc. Enjoy getting back to work on your project and don't worry about the timeline too much!

That reminds me of a thread unstaffed in October 2018 called the Ford Truck Procrastinators Club. I wanted to start that thread earlier but never got around to it.

Thanks for the update Jeff. I was going to reply earlier but never got around to it! LOL

Sometimes you just have to say, "No."

Hey Jeff, glad to hear you are still kicking. Don't beat yourself up over a long project truck, lots of people in that group with ya, myself included! And I know what your talking about when you mention time. I blinked and married off two daughters and somehow became a grandpa, started a frame off restoration on a 66 Galaxie and am about to drive the Coleman in the spring.

Jeff nice of you to check. FTE has had some sad times lately with the passing of a couple of members. I always wonder when I don't see posts from members I have had personal contact with. You and I connected on Linkedin not too long ago so I knew you were still kicking.

As for the prolonged projects, I've had a '37 Buick sitting in my shop and then in my garage when I sold the building and moved into a new house. It's been four years since I laid a finger on it. The last few years haven't been too economically advantageous for us. In the last few weeks it looks like things might be looking up finally and I hope to get back on the Buick and also get some repairs to the F-2 and panel. Time sure seems like it's flying a lot faster as you grow old.

Don't be in a hurry, I have the problem of starting something and not stopping until it's done . Over the course of 9 years I resurrected a 1950 Doge pick up a 1963 ford ranchero a 1954 f100 panel a 1956 f250 and a honda cbx motorcycle . these took almost all my free time and $ . they have all been sold and now I am burned out . I have no interest in any big projects and have been fixing lawn mowers and golf carts for friends , Just lately , I started doing scrap art , welding up things around the shop , it keeps me in the garage . So take your time and enjoy the build
