TuneUp Time...

OK, it's time. My upper rad hose sprung a leak so if I'm going to be replacing it, might as well make a day of it. I don't know hold old this stuff is, just got it in April and have piled on 10K since. It has 132K. Just actually changed the oil and the fuel pump took a **** so it has a new fuel filter too. Oh, I just bought a replacement Motorcraft air filter but have yet to install it yet. Damn, forgot the breather filter on the base of the airbox. Also has a brand new PCV too.

1) Upper rad hose
2) Lower rad hose
3) Coolant Flush
4) Distributor Cap
5) Distributor Rotor
6) Plug Wires
7) Spark Plugs
8) Ignition Coil (Motorcraft?)
9) Oxygen Sensor
10) Coolant
11) Heater Hoses

I know I want Motorcraft. Who carries Motorcraft? AutoZone? Murrays? Pep Boys?

Am I missing anything?

Don't forget to change the PCV valve.

Everyone else does.

Well, I did it all and now it runs like a champ. The O2 sensor still had a Ford logo which leads me to believe that it is the stock sensor with 132K! Anyways, the only problems I encountered was when I removed the plugs. #4 and #8 were normally worn but the remaining had a slight whiteness to them. Not scored like Chiltons or Haynes depicts in the picture but lightly dusted.

It would most likely than not, benefit you to change the O2 sensor...I was told by a ford tech that changing the O2 sensor whenever changing plugs etc, would yield the most bang for your buck gas mileage wise and performance wise...

He told me that 60k miles is the ideal changeout point.

O2 sensor sensitivity wears down as mileage adds up and voltage readings deviate moreso over higher mileages so a new one would benefit the engine.

This is also a good time to really evaluate your engine, timing,
pinging etc....if timing is good and some pinging is there, I would suggest cooler plugs...these dissapate heat faster than the hotter plugs and help avoid detonation or pinging..

just an FYI

I also would like to to do a tune up on my Bronco and had some questions. I figure this is as good a time as any to replace with some MSD parts. Should I just go with Cap, Rotor, and Coil from MSD or are there other parts? I don't really want to spend the money on the Ignition box thing yet. I just changed the plugs so those should be fine. What is a good set of plug wires? Is there just one O2 sensor to change? Thanks!

A cap & rotor set was $14.99 and coil was 24.99 from AutoZone. I'm not really into engine performance from my truck, just quality operation. My wires were 34.99 with lifetime warranty and there is one oxygen sensor to change out and that was 49.99.
