Putting that in the dash is one of my favorite mods. It has already saved me from going down over a bad alternator and it's like having a glow plug LED indicator.
It gleans some interesting insight into what the truck is doing with a real time voltage reading (glow plugs, AIH, etc)
There is a guy “Toomanytoys” who posts in the 6.0 forum who made some neat YouTube videos showing how you can get some better idle output from the 110 or 140 amp alternators by putting a $15 overdrive pulley on it. I put one on my stock 110 amp figuring “eh what the hell”. He has used the 110, 140 and 230 amp Leece-Neville unit and has run tons of tests on how they all perform.
I dont think you have to worry about the wiring by swapping the 6.0 Bosch unit on there. It’s a very mild upgrade. But that is what I would do is slap a new alt on there and see what happens regarding the original problem. It is probably just a shot voltage regulator.

I kept the OEM wiring and it was plug and play for the units I bought.

I wish I could personalize my component colors. With CA being very strict on visual inspections I specifically avoided that as the less stock it looks under the hood the harder the inspector looks to verify OEM components.
I had to ask my wife the color of that alternator, she said "sea foam" and she likes it!
I always called that "Insane Asylum"; because it was apparently one of the least expensive paint colors available so muncipal governments used to use a lot of it in paint schemes in buildings, water towers, fire hydrants &c. At one time governments were almost frugal (at times) about spending other people's money. Sounds crazy today, but it's true.
