I've got 16K miles on my 2018 and never seen, heard or felt a regen. Why would you want to know when it's happening?
I'm going with this guy. I've never seen or felt one. It has become such a non-issue. My 2011 I could feel it, and I could catch the screen. Plus you could see it drag down the boost every couple of seconds if you were cruising. The 2019....nothing.
I can feel a difference in the throttle response and I've seen a lot of threads that say you can smell it if you get out of the truck before it has reached zero or right at the end of a regen . As to the op , something doesn't sound right , my truck regens an average of every 478 miles . I use an Edge CTS2 to monitor status . There are several threads here that explain how to enable the DPF screen as well as enable a manual regen . Hope this helps .
One tell tale sign of an active regen is under light throttle, boost will jump to 8psi much faster than when not in a regen for RPMs under 2k. Also the instant mile per gallon will drop a bit.
Now I dont feel so bad, I have 5500 miles on mine, and not once did I know it went into regen. I do need to get a forscan by spring though, I have heard you can disable the tpms. I want to switch back to my 35's, and I do not have the sensors in those tires. maybe someone with forscan can confirm this for me,......
Nothing is telling me it’s doing. How are you guys knowing that it’s doing a regen.
The easiest sign for me, before I enabled the dpf% screen, was the smell. I can smell it every time. Aside from that, I've noticed additional sounds and a change in drivability during regen, if I'm in town. On the highway I cant tell at all.
I have 2200 miles on mine, and have not "noticed" a regen ever! I am sure it has happened, but it is such a non-issue. I swear that some people buy a truck just to look for something they can complain about!

The only complaint I've seen in this thread is that he's experiencing regens every 120mi., that's not normal. What's wrong with asking about an issue that is not normal for this vehicle?
I bought mine used but in the aprox 3k I have had it for I have never seen a regen, nothing on the dash or anything. Shrug it will all fall off soon anyway so not to concerned.
You wont see anything on the screen unless you or the dealer enables it. Sounds like you have a better plan already .
dosent it tell u to keep driving or running or something?
last diesel was an 07 Cummins 5.9 so no bs involved there.
yea the plan seems sound, hit a bump and magic it will fall off lol parts been waiting in the garage for a few months till warranty work is done.
After 2017, I think, there is no pop up notice for cleaning exhaust filter that shows on the dash. Ford stopped that notice for different reasons. The most popular being so that drivers would stop worrying about what to do when it would show 1 mile from home and call the service dept of the local dealer. Ask me how I know.
Now there is no message and it’s designed not to give any obvious notice in performance. Aside from the add on % screen you can notice it, usually on the highway, when you drop to 10 mpg for 20 miles or so.
I can tell when my 19 regens by looking at the mpg screen either one , will drop dramatically when it regens which most of the time happens when i am on the highway at a constant speed ,if its reading 18.5 mpg when it regens it will drop as low as 13-14 when it stops or finishes it climbs back up .
Adding the DPF % screen and turning off the Auto Regen feature helps me plan for a regen (added via FORScan). When it is full, I can then turn back on Auto Regen when I know my driving conditions can allow for a complete burn-off to 0% (driving above 30 mph, for at least 20 min, and I lock-out higher gears to keep my RPM around 2,500.) I agree you should just drive your truck and not worry about regen frequency, but knowing I can assist the process stops unnecessary fuel consumption and DPF heat cycles.
Don't sweat it if you think regens are happening too frequently. The 500 mile interval is not for everyone and there are many any different factors that trigger regens...Quote from the Manual below:
"The regeneration process operates more efficiently when you drive your vehicle at a constant speed above 30 mph (48 km/h) and at a steady engine speed for approximately 20 minutes. The frequency and duration of regeneration fluctuates by how you drive your vehicle, outside air temperature and altitude. For most driving, regeneration frequency varies from 100–500 mi (160–805 km) between occurrences and each occurrence lasts 9–35 minutes. You can usually reduce the duration of regeneration if you maintain a constant speed above 30 mph (48 km/h)."
My 2019 has 2900 miles and according to the DPF% screen, my distance between regen is around 150 miles + or - 15 miles. However, I do mainly city stop and go traffic driving. The 30 miles highway driving to clean the DPF down to 0% seems about right as I observe my takes around 25 miles interstate driving. I have read about people getting the dealer to reflash their truck ( not sure if it's ECM, PCM, or whatever.) so perhaps ask about that. It should also be mentioned that at least one of those person said post reflash their truck saw a DECREASE in MPG, but if you're unhappy with your current situation if might still be worth a shot. Other than that, your two main options are emissions compliant tuning or delete.
Option 1. Emissions compliant tuning claims to offer better MPG, longer distance between regen, more power, etc etc.
Option 2. Delete = No regen. Nuff said.
Also now that Black Friday and Christmas are around the corner, it's very likely these companies and eBay will have some sort of sale so check their social media or sign up for emails. If you go route 2, you might want to hurry because of the crackdown. There are still a few sites that offer delete tuning.
I was seeing about the same mileage frequency and assumed it was normal. I decided to use a fuel additive and the regen frequency has improved. I see about 350 miles now between regens but I am mostly stop and go. Maybe it could be fuel quality? I’m in NH/MA FYI. Not sure how fuel quality differs from region to region.
