would you please ease assist me decoding those numbers.? Found the buck tag and some details I do not recognize. Maybe you can help or address to a site we’re I can decode.
Also, the engine decal would be nice to decode.
Thank you.
) I see things like A/C, Mid and Aft tanks, 133" wheelbase, those are just guessing at what all that means I'm sure I'm wrong. Other numbers are factory codes used by workers to assemble various components according to what the DSO ordered the truck for

H = 390 2V
R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant // Buck Tag has a P instead of the R
R84118 = 1973.
133" Wheelbase.
X8: X = Light Goldenrod // 8 = Yellow.
F105 = F100 2WD Pickup, 5500 lbs. GVWR
L 4: L = Medium Ginger Vinyl & Medium Ginger Cloth - Ranger XLT // 4 = Styleside Pickup box.
G = C6 Automatic Transmission.
H2J: H2 = Ford 9" Rear Axle / 3.50-1 / Limited Slip / 3,750 lbs. Axle Capacity // J = Power Steering.
5,500 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
74 = Seattle WA Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
Codes on buck tags were used by assembly line workers to assure the correct parts were installed that matched the build sheet.
These codes cannot be decoded unless they match codes on the Warranty Plate.
But the sequence of codes stamped on the buck tag are not the same as the Warranty Plate, so decoding these without a Warranty Plate would be almost impossible.

I say it matched because the 2-3 notes 73GreenBean mentioned, A/C, dual tanks and 133” were correct for my application.
yes, I also noticed that there is a P instead of an R in the buck tag and Warranty Plate, is that correct or should be an error.? Guessed it should be the same R in both places.!
Thought for 1973, X8 meant Durango tan with Tampico Yellow, haven’t seen that Light Goldenrod before...
Anyways, I appreciate your feedback very much, thanks.!

Parts catalogs list the actual colors, not promotional name colors. Each color has a basic part number next to it.
8 = Yellow = Basic part number: 3341 - touch up paint: AE60-3341-A 3 ounce can w/brush.
X = Light Goldenrod = Basic part number: 3565 - touch up paint: AE60-3565-A 3 ounce can w/brush.
DuPont, Sherwin-Williams and other color charts have a 'chip' (picture) of the actual color, the COLOR code and the Ford basic part number.
btw: X for 1976/78 is Tan, basic part number: 5441
The above info is from the 1973/79 100/500 series Ford TRUCK parts catalog, not the 1973/79 Ford car parts catalog.

Definitely a ford valve cover...do you know if the engine is original to the truck ( id assume it is since the rest of the truck looks original) but if it's not that sort of looks like something autozone or another crate engine company would put on their rebuilds
as far as I know those numbers cannot be decoded as they are codes that are not in database storage for us to look up. Those may be dating numbers, batch numbers for the cover, style numbers or other non important numbers. Honestly I wouldn't worry about them as they are not important other than be curious. Most are usually burnt off from all the heat the engine puts off or peeled off due to rain and just plain being 40+ years old
