Fuel Tank Sending Unit

Back 23ish years I bought new saddle tank and sending unit from LMC. Tank is still shiny clean.

I pulled the sending unit out today to replace with one I pulled from a 1970 f350 that I have because the LMC sending unit never worked. This was before I new you had to test brand new parts.

The 70 sending unit I tested beneath the truck with my dad to make sure it worked. It does. When I pulled the unit out today it was missing the filter. I think that is it in the picture. I tried fishing for it but never got it. I will probably have to drop the tank or the drive shaft for that. Bummer. Also, the plug on my truck was never long enough to hook to the unit because the LMC unit was at a different angle. So back then I had to make two jumper wires to get the length.

LMC sending unit.

From the 70 f350.
That 90 degree turn on the connector screwed me all those years on that too.
I will get that filter out of the tank one way or another but does anyone know the part number for the filter. I have found different ones that looked totally different from each other.
If it matters, this truck is a 1970 f250 SC CS and has 5/16" pick-up tube.

The truck has only been driven the last 4 years or so, with no fuel guage, and yes I have run out of gas before( 4 or 5 times).

If the sending units in 1957/70 vehicles are the originals, they never had a 'plastic meshed filter screen' because they weren't introduced until 1971.

From 1971 thru 1979, all Passenger Cars, trucks with gas engines (except with in-cab tank), Bronco's and Econolines had one of these screens on the sending units of new vehicles.

Beginning in 1971, all 1957/79 sending units (except trucks w/in-cab tank) sold at Ford parts counters also had it.

But sending units sold by auto parts stores and possibly the replacements sold by repro parts sellers may have it, may not.

D1AZ-9A011-A .. Plastic Meshed Filter Screen 3/8" I.D. / Obsolete

1957/79 FoMoCo vehicles except 1971/77 Maverick/Comet & 1971/79 Pinto/Bobcat.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 28 = 800-543-4959.

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 298 = 800-476-9653 - these may be repro's.

D1FZ-9A011-A .. Plastic Meshed Filter Screen 5/16" I.D. / Obsolete

1971/77 Maverick/Comet // 1971/79 Pinto/Bobcat.

GREEN SALES CO. has 11.

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS has 356 - these may also be repro's.

Thx for the info. I wont worry about a new one then. Its not like there isnt two other filters before the ole carburetor. I will still get that one out of the tank though. I took a load to the dump today and still didnt swap the sending units out because I put gas in yesterday. Next weekend.
