looks like I forgot a step. I installed Altman easy latches but didn’t think about it when ordering Tmi door panels for a stock latch. (Don’t mind they chipped paint 🙃 any ideas?
Just notch the door panel.
Looks like you did a great job on welding/painting in the Altman mounting plate, what happened with the screws?
I don’t wanna notch the door panel and make it look terrible. On the screws, I guess I tightened them down too much. Chipping the paint. I’m gonna touch them up and see how they look
If you want the door to larch then the panel MUST be notched...if you are not able to do this without making if "look terrible" then take it to a shop.
Take a walk around a wrecking yard there are vehicles that have a small plastic cover for the door latch area . You may be able to find a suitable cover . PS I know the mercedes I rebuilt for my daughter had them .
Remove the panel and try to cut the notch from the back side, without cutting the fabric. Then peel the notched piece from behind the fabric. Then cut the fabric as needed to roll it around the cut edge, and glue it to the back of the panel.
If you are very careful, and take your time, you might be able to cut the panel with a cutting wheel on a Dremel tool. Go very slow and take small bites to keep from melting the plastic.
Like Charlie said; if in doubt, take it to a shop.
thx Effie,
I agree on that workflow. I’m worried about snapping the plastic clips holding the panel on. I have a panel popper removal tool so I’ll be careful.
I’ll Report back later !!

Just an update, after I peeled back the fabric with a razor blade, and notched the panel with a dremel, there wasn’t much fabric to fold over and hide the cardboard. Had to use a little black spray paint on the cardboard. I think it turned out great
