Door Clip Pockets

I'm getting ready to attach the door panel on my 78 F250 following the advice of 77&79F250, but on the back of my door panel, the cups aren't all opened up the way as shown in the picture below. Do folks do some cutting / trimming before re-attaching the door panels with the push pins?

What kind of pins are you trying to use ? I've never had any problem with the correct ones.

What cups do you speak of? A picture might help. Use the correct fasteners and be gentle with the old plastic. It gets a bit brittle with age.

There are twisted wire pins (the original equipment) and there are plastic push pins as mentioned here ( https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post17392903 ). I'm trying to use the plastic push pins, but some of the recesses on the backside of the door - where the plastic pin would sit - are just a tiny hole instead of the open gap you see above.

If you are using the original metal pieces with the foam/rubber and the 90* bend, you do not need to open the place they slip into. They slip into the gap behind the area I reinforced. If you want to use the "Christmas" tree like push pins, then time to Dremel notch the tab like in the thread you attached. I think in the last pic they were notched by the PO with a pair of dikes.

Mine aren't a C shape like yours. They have an elliptical shape where the head of the plastic push pin "screws" into. But my door panels are cheap LMC replacements.

Go buy the GM style plastic ones. Parts store can point you to them in the help aisle or stand. They're a bit longer than Ford. If you use the plastic ones and want to take the panels off you can mask the paint and use a hack saw blade to cut the plastic.
