Does anyone know if the material and patterns are the same for the grey fabric seats across the years? I found a 3rd seat from a 2005 online and material patterns like the checking looks different. Even the stitching might be different from my 2002. It's been impossible so far to find one locally so I've spread out my search to like the entire country. I don't want to blow $600 on something and it ends being different.
I've looked in the Detroit Books between the two years and there seem to be a few different types even in the same year! I wish I could buy a seat that I found for about half the price and just get another OEM cover but they aren't available.

Have you checked with the seat shop? They have replacement covers for the excursion.
They're very proud of their products and don't even offer the embroidered "Limited" logo! $$$
they would have to license that from ford and Ford would not likely do a license deal with a small mfg like them.
however if you must have it, you the consumer can take your new seat shop cover to a local embroidery place who can stitch whatever you like in your seat cover. been there done that
Our neighbor does OEM upholstery replacement for newer cars and trucks for many of the dealers in Houston. I'll check in with them to see what they can get their hands on as far as original fabric patterns for our trucks, as I'm nearing replacement time for my EX as well. Call me a purist, but I prefer the original pattern cloth and quality for some odd reason lol. I'll let you know what I find out and an estimate on price. They do ship many of their finished replacements as well.

There are two or three companies on Ebay who do the embroidery, and I'm sure they are not licensed. Besides, there's no trademark on fonts nor the concept of embroidery. It's aftermarket manufacturing. There are gazillions of aftermarket parts that say Ford on them. They just cannot "counterfeit" with Ford part numbers and claim them to be OEM.
I've ordered these aftermarket leather covers for my last two Excursions from Ebay and they are quite nice to the point you cannot tell the difference from OEM. My current project Excursion needs new seat back covers and will buy the same.
