Talking Sump and fuel system?

Anyone do a fuel bowl delete on the EX? A sump and an airdog or similar? Any experience or tips? Thinking about doing one, but would like to get some first hand experience

TIA

we recently had a good discussion on the 7.3 fuel system including the fuel bowl delete.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post19074862

but to answer you specific question, no i have not deleted a 7.3 bowl. read the thread to find out why.

i am sure someone on fte has but so far nobody has claimed it

I have a completely aftermarket fuel system. I do not miss my fuel bowl.

you can mess with it , but at the same time just know that stock is a well designed and capable system.. a few tweeks here and there and run it

^Correct.

I should qualify my post by saying I removed mine due to my WVO system. I would likely still have it if I had not

LOLOLOL...starting at the tank (Keep in mind I have 2 tanks...stock 45gal and aftermarket 25gal) at my WVO peak system design.

From Stock tank to supply valves:
Heated Fuel Pickup - 1/2"
Heated Fuel Line to supply selector valve - 1/2"
I do not pre-pump filter this as I filter to 2 microns before putting in the truck

From Aux tank to supply valve:
Line from tank Pre-filter/De-Water filter
Line to Supply Selector Valve - 3/8"

The system then goes:
Supply Selector valve --> FASS Fuel Pump --> 2 micron filter on diesel supply and WVO supply lines --> fuel delivery selector valve --> 3/8" supply to engine

Then basically the reverse of that for the return system so I can make sure WVO goes to the WVO tank and diesel to the diesel tank...I also have a loop valve on the WVO return so I can recirculate WVO to increase the temp.

It sounds complicated and it looks complicated but it's basically a group of valves on the WVO side and a group on the Diesel side all switching together.

sounds cool.

I’d be interested to see pics of your off the processing plant and how you prep the product for use.

i have been wanting to build a centrifuge to process used motor motor and other petroleum oils into products to run in my 7.3 love burning repurposed fuels but as if yet the only thing i run is Jet A that is no longer fit to be used in helicopters.

6 Myles,

Could you post some photos of your valves/wvo/recirculation system. Just curious.

Thanks,

Rob

Here's my heating/dewatering/filtering setup up. The 55 Gal drums are your pretty standard WVO setup...heats the oil up via water heater element and has a standpipe setup to allow the water and debris to sink to the bottom, below where you siphon off. It then goes to the water heater to be heated up again and run through a 2 micron polishing filter for about 2hrs....then I pump it into the tank.

Thanks 6_Myles.

Not to hijack a thread but did you build your own WVO system?

LOL...Yes and No. I converted my Excursion in 2007 having a kit installed by what is now called Golden Fuel Systems (Vegetable Oil Fuel Systems, Filters, Pumps, DVDs & More!). I wasn't hugely impressed with the fuel pickup, fuel pump, and switching valves that was part of the kit. So I picked their system apart (kept the tank and the heated fuel line and filter housings) and put together my own system with what I thought was a more robust system...and I've modified it over the years to suit my needs. I haven't run WVO in about a year because my schedule has been rather busy with 2 teenagers in sports and work, and collecting here in Western NC has gotten more and more difficult with the Biodiesel plant starting up in 2008.

Vegistroke came out a few years later and, at the time, was the nicest kit on the market...Full VegiStroke V4 Kit - Biofuels Technologies...and still may be.

I have a BFT V4 that is slowly being installed in mine with a custom 40 gallon stainless steel tank. Also planning on adding an auxillary coolant pump and coolant heater wrap to the wvo filter.

Very nice. Both of those are great additions to systems. I had a flat plate heat exchanger at one point but decided it was overkill for my climate. If the WVO is flowing, once it gets to the fuel passage in the head, the engine heat was getting the oil way hotter than I needed it to be, so pre-engine oil temp wasn’t so critical of a number.
