i was just wonderning what a ballpark figure would be to get my seat reuphostered. it would need new foam and i wan't it done in a pleated fabric so it looks like tuck and roll but i dont want leather or vinil. to much mantiance. i just need a rough figure to see if i want to get it reupholstered or swap in a newer seat. thanks
Matt, I don't know about upholstery in Wyoming, which may be an entirely different price range, but your prolly looking at 3-400$ depending on what material you go with. I personally like ultra leather (a synthetic) and ultra suede, or maybe tweed. my .$.02
I paid $480 to have my 90 Ranger bench seat recovered with a simple two-toned naugahyde cover and it needed no foam or spring work. That included an extra $80 for a couple of map pockets added to the backside of the seat. There is no auto upholstery shop in my town so I had it done by a furniture upholsterer. If I had not be able to purchase the seat very cheap ($35) from a local salvage yard, I would have bought an aftermarket seat already upholstered like from Teas or Roddoors.
I have a small fortune in my seat, First off I did not have the factory seat and I was going original. I bought an original custom cab seat assembly for $100.00 some 15 years ago (custom cab seats are different) Then I located the factory material that set me back another $275.00 then the upholstry shop got me for yet $450.00 for a grand total of $825.00 just for a seat. Now mind you that IMO I think I have the the nicest original seat in the country. EXACTLY like the factory seat.
thanks i was looking at like a two tone cloth type covering. i dont want leather vinyl or any other synthetic leather. it cold in the winter hot in the summer and is a lot of maintence to keep it from geting all hard and cracking. this is just gonna be a daily driver so i dont need nuthin fancy. thanks agian maybe i will check around and see wether i want to reuphoster or swap in a newer seat.
I wanted to go with as much stock looking as possible. I redid my bench seat in Black vinyl. With the foam and reupholstery, I paid $250, but that was 2 years ago. I didn't do it my seat but I recommend you have the back part of the seat upholstered too. The part your back rests on. Even though you don't really see it because its up on the cab, when you pull the seat forward, it looks much nicer not seeing the fabric and springs.
i started looking on the internet on upholstery foam to see what i want and im just wondering what density firmness of foam do i want to make a nice comfertable seat that is't to soft or to hard.
thanks im just trying to dicide what to do. has any one reuphostered there seat themselves.
My seats were not stock, but some headrested piece from a newer small truck, split 40/60. I removed the headrests with my cold chisel, bought some upholstery fabric (vinyl) and using the disassembled fabric as patterns sewed my own rolls and pleats on my wife's standard sewing machine.
I have enough fabric to make door panels, kick panels and an upholstered panel to clean up the firewall on the inside. Bought some additional foam and batting to adjust where the headrests no longer existed. Probably cost me just under 200 bucks. The satisfaction of learning how to sew pleats (thanks, Barb) and the generally decent look of the finished product sure made it worthwhile.
I bought a upholstery kit once from Mid Fifties. It was easy to install as long as you have a set of hog ring pliers. For whatever reason, it simply doesn't come out as nice as what the upholsterer does. I'd let them do what they do best, at least on the seat that is very noticeable.
Hi, Check out my gallery. There should be a few pictures in there when I did my 1950 Bench Seat. I bought the kit from Lebaron Bonney for $169.00 and did it myself. Everything that you need is in the kit to do both the Seat Bottom and the Seat Back. They will send you a catalog that you can request on their web site. Send me an e:mail if you want additional pictures or info.
Lebaron Bonney in Amesbury Ma. is a good company to do business with. I installed one of their kits in a 31 Vicky that I restored many years ago. I had checked their website for you earlier but did not reply since their cutoff year on the seat for a ford truck is 1952. However, when I look at your gallery I will say that the seat looks a lot like my 49 seat. You can get a kit from them and if you contact them I believe that will make it in other than the stock fabrics. They have a very broad range of fabrics available. Does anyone know if the 49-50 seat is the same basic structure as the late 50's seat?
well when i was looking at my seat i found this tag that had a bunch of numbers on it and on top it siad 11 19 56. does this mean my seats a 56. thanks for the suggetions on where to get stuff. i think i might try to do it myself my moms got a sewing machine and shes pretty handy with it so if i dont sew it she can. all i need to know is what density, firmness of foam to get.
