Has anyone done this? My heater (a/c) vents were cracked and needing replaced. I purchased all 4 vents to replace the old broken ones. 3 of the vents are easy enough to do as they’re screwed into the dash piece that surrounds the radio and dash cluster. The one I need help with is the passenger side dash vent. Does anyone know how to get to this? Do I have to remove the whole dash? Or maybe the airbag? I’d rather not mess with the airbag but will if I need to (power disconnected from battery first of course). Any help is greatly appreciated.
You have to pull the entire dash...I’ll be pulling mine again soon after installing my 07 dash I saw all the vents fall down when I hit speed bumps so I have to put felt in between the mounting holes to keep em steady. It sounds a lot worse than it is but will take some time. I’m pretty sure you can do the job without removing the air bag. However to remove it they sell plastic body tool kits disconnect the air bags electric than using a plastic pry tool it will pop right out of course there’s a few bolts holding it in. Pry about 2 inches from the corners toward the midline. Be very careful lining up the 4 studs on reinstall. After messing with airbags I’ll do a final check on the work area than put the key to accessory and finally connect the battery Incase there’s any loud surprises. What I am referring to as the dash is the biggest plastic piece in the photo you do not need to remove the frame////do not remove the frame lol I believe all the screws are 8 mm that hold the dash on Unless your ready to go all the way and have a huge cleaning party lol Here is a photo of the frame it is attached in about 5 places.
Thanks RigCity. I was afraid of that. I guess I’ll do it over this upcoming weekend. Is it just the screws along the bottom of the windshield and one on each side? Also, do I have to remove the airbag to pull the dash, or will the dash come out around the airbag?
you want to leave the frame on removing the bolts on the side will start to remove the frame. If that is what you want to do all electrical must be disconnected first. To access the passenger vent I would pop the light switch, the bezel with the other 3 vents, than pop out the instrument cluster, than remove the lower dash(the piece of the dash the cup holder is part of, the cup holder has screws on the outside and under neath. I am pretty sure you have to pull the airbag there will be 2 bolts that are a different color than the rest you loosen them than it will slide out there is no need to fully remove the bolts, remove the glovebox before hand as well. The bolts should all be the same size except 1 of the front 3 on the windshield and the bolts that hold the fuse box in place. In that photo you will see a copper piece on the right windshield make sure that does not get lost and goes on right that's one of the harder parts. its probably closer to 20 bolts it sounds like a lot but its not too bad. Be prepared to hunt down a hiding bolt or 2 but once you start rolling its not too bad.
Here are a few photos I took 100s but the vast majority were at when my phone too a hit. The radio also has to be removed and maybe the parking brake release handle I know to remove the entire dash it does.
Just a few of the bolts but that’s the target style The 2 gold bolts there need to be take out. The gear selector pops right out of the cluster. Air bag connected circled mounting bolt area is filled in.
Got it done. Thanks for all the help and pics RigCity! I didn’t have to remove the airbag, just the airbag cover/door thing. Got the dash all unbolted and got the right side pulled far enough out I get my hand back there to get the old vent out and the new one in. I ha e functioning vents again!
