About a month and a half ago I was pulling out of my driveway in my 1976 F250 and found out my brakes weren't working right. The petal went to the floor. I had just driven the truck the day before and everything was fine. Come to find out the front portion of the master cylinder was almost empty. I filled it back up and everything has been back to normal since. What I found odd was that I didn't find any leaks and most of my brake parts are only a few years old with barely any miles on them. I'm still keeping an eye out for any leaks, but has anyone else experienced this before?
I had the same issue and didn’t find it nearly as quickly. My master cylinder lid wasnt good enough of a seal. Occasionally i would park on an incline and the fluid would leak out the front of the master. Because they’re cheap I replaced the entire cylinder. But if you see any paint peeling specifically in the front of the unit. That would be a dead give away.
Was it bone dry or just real low? If it was bone dry, after you filled it did you bleed your brakes? As far as the front portion of the mc, that fluid goes to the front brakes so I'd insp the front rubber lines and all that area real well. Or maybe a master cylinder piston seal is blown and the fluid is leaking INTO the power brake booster? I seem to remember hearing that can happen.
