Brakes.........

So I get in my 76 150 today start her up and step on the brake. Right to the floor....... no leaks fluid in master, no noticeable vacuum leak. They were always a little soft but not anything close to this. Anywhere I should check before I loose my mind? They are disk/drum power.

Thanks

Sounds like the Master cylinder isn't working. A bad booster would be a very hard pedal .

Assume you made sure there isn't fluid leaking from a rusted line or caliper/wheel cylinder. Agree most likely master cylinder is bad. The seals failed and oil is just passing by them rather than being pushed to the wheels to create braking pressure.
An often neglected preventive maintenance task on vehicles old and new is to completely flush the brake fluid every so often by bleeding every wheel until it comes out clean. Not exactly a task any of us looks forward to doing. Moisture collects in the fluid and eventually rusts the master cylinder, wheel cylinder and caliper piston bores causing seal failure.

Mark8man,
Assuming it's Jason, agree with you IRT changing brake fluid and it's a preventative maintenance task I perform every two years. I consider it cheap insurance. (FYI) I'm originally from 15021 Zip code, not too far from you and where we refer to Antennas as Aerials, Rubber bands as Gum Bands and instead of say you all, we say youns.

Assuming no fluid was seen on the ground or behind the brake backing plates, it probably went from the master cylinder into the booster. From there it may be within the booster housing, down the firewall, or into the vacuum line and subsequently into the engine.

I will do a once over when I get home, if it is something easy I will repair. However I have been looking for an excuse to do the hydro boost conversion, this might just be that excuse.

How much re do work would that entail? Would you have to replace all the hardlines and propitiation valves and bleeds?
