I just replaced the front calipers, master cylinder and bled the entire brake system on my '93 F250 4x4: The pedal is not and firm when the engine is not running, but when running will slowly go to the floor with firm pressure . What gives, this all started when I had the calipers replaced two weeks ago, so I installed a new master cylinder and no change occurred. I'm puzzled!
Hmm. I didn't notice it before this, but from what do know it isn't it isn't normal. No other Ford truck in our fleet is doing this, so I've checked vaccum and bled the entire system. It's still present in this one truck.
Hey, I have a quick question about brakes. I just replaced the stock front rotors on my car with EBC slotted and dimpled rotors. I replaced the pads at the same time, per instruction manual. now the rotors make a ticking sound as I'm driving down the road. It sounds like a secada bug ( I have no idea how to spell it). the brake pedal feels fine, no softness, no fade. Any ideas?
I contacted EBC and was told that the noise was just the normal noise of the rotors. Because they are dimpled and not drilled, they make alot of noise at high speeds.
I just found tonight that after bleeding the right rear brake for the THIRD time that apparently it has a nasty habit of holding onto some air. I must have bled a quart through that one line alone. Truck would hardly stop, pedal to the floor and after I bled that it locks up the rear wheels halfway through the pedal travel (well, ABS kicks in).
It would be rare that the MC would fail just after replacing the calipers, so I'd look closely at the parts of the system you worked on first, namely the calipers and bleeding. First of all, check closely for leaks. If the pedal won't hold then there is either an external leak or the new MC is bypassing. I just put my old one back on to find it was in fact fine after thinking it was the cuplrit of a soft pedal.
