2002 F150 FX4 XLT 5.4 extended cab
I got no headlights. All the lights work except for the headlights and foglights. The BRIGHTS DO WORK and all marker and tailghts, blinkers and brakelights DO work. Just no headlights. I just replaced the switch and that didn't work. The main fuse under hood has power and is not blown. The fuses under the dash are either not getting power or my multimeter probes won't fit in to make contact. Probably the former. The fuses under the dash aren't blown either. I will say that I just replaced the heater core so my dash was out about a week before the headlights went.
Any ideas? Wire colors for the headlights, grounds that may have come loose or other known pinch points would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...
On the light switch test terminals 4and 5, 10 and 11 ohmmeter closed circuit the switch must be removed for the check. Ok, the parking brake has a ground, high beam instrument is grounded off the instrument panel, fog light switch is tied in as well to the ground for headlights, in the kick panels drivers side and pass side, is one of main grounds to dash. Off the top of my head and the ground on the dash to cab behind dash that you had to undo to remove dash. I do has the wiring thing, I just have to look it up and then post it. The headlights have a ground though the parking pedal switch as well.
I know a lot of whatever, but go and look back over the main grounds.
Ok. I only remember removing 1 ground when I pulled the dash. That was the pass. side kick panel. That one is good. I didn't pull the dash completly. The drivers side was still connected by various harnesses. Gonna look at the brake pedal thpugh. I did have to remove that.
Thanks alot!!!
It is the park brake switch that is grounded. It is a light green/red wire that runs to it from the DRL module and I want to say the ground is a bolt that is it loses it will not ground. This all ties back to the headlights.
Try this and see if you have a park brake lamp in the dash. Push the emg brake down and see if the light comes on. If it does it is grounded.
It does come on. Already tried. I've checked all the grounds (green screws) I can see. 1 on the pass side kick panel and 2 in the drivers side.
Gonna go get some test leads that will fit in the terminals and see if I'm getting power to the fuse panel and to the switch.
Could it be something under the hood between the switch and the lights?

Okay, the number 5 fuse 15a junction box fuse/relay panel. fuse 16 20a, 28 10a 26 10a goes to a multifunction switch
Fuse 4 goes to it as well
Have you checked the headlight relay? It could have gone bad and I can't remember which one it is. Look in your owners' book and see if it says or under the fuse cover.
After ripping most of the dash out, dropping the steering column and testing every wire, ground, fuse, relay and switch I could find...I finally figured it out. The damn auto lamp sensor was unplugged.
It seems that when I put the dash back in from replacing the heater core, I left it unplugged.
