crank really wasn’t that bad and could have been machined. But rock auto had crank with the bearings for $204. So I just replaced them. Didn’t have to wait for a machine shop or anything.
ao far I have been really happy with this tear down and what I have seen of this engine, i had a gut feeling it was worth saving.
and yeah it was a gamble. We could have torn into it and found heads bad low compression or a series of highly worn down parts, and almost all advice I got from the get go was swap the engine.
but I would rather repair an engine that is proven itself than some unknown reman. Don’t get me wrong the reman might be another great engine. But there are always those lemons that keep breaking and you constantly throw money at, then you have those engines that are well maintained that you could get 400k miles out of. And yes your gonna get some things will wear down. And if this had been a kid that ran the truck for 6 months after it started knocking then I would have swapped the engine if I even purchased the truck.
Even still it was a gamble but this time I think it has paid off. Now I can’t wait for it to all go back together.
and once again I want to thank the input on checking those manifold bolts. I plan to put a new exhaust in possibly this year (been looking at the banks system, I am sure I will be asking your input when that time comes too) and those bolts would have been a pain in *** when I went to change the headers. Now they are brand new and will make that job so much easier when the time comes. So I really appreciate the heads up.
glad to be a new member of the forum and look forward to sharing my experiences with my new f250.
I know the first thing to be done after it is finally back together is to upgrade the sound system. Already looking at a pioneer that will give the truck xm and backup camera and CarPlay. Will be adding a post about speakers and what people have encountered.
keep y’all posted
Did you have the rod reconditioned?
On a motor I had spun a rod bearing on, it actually had bent the cap out a little. had to "adjust" the cap, then resize the hole so that it was back round again and of the correct size.

Make sure you use anti-seize on all of those manifold studs if you plan to upgrade. Even replacing them while the engine is out doesn't mean they will come off easy in a year.

nope it was only 204 for a new crank and bearings at rock auto so I didn’t bother. Sending mine back for the core charge

My Banks headers have been on for 6.5 years now, the truck is our dedicated tow rig for a 12K TT, so it sees plenty of hard work and heat with about 40K towing miles on them. They have been perfect with zero issues and I recommend them for anyone looking to get the most from their 2V 6.8 along with good custom tunes and the right gears for the planned usage.
Seems like you are taking a pretty big chance regarding condition of that one piston, cylinder and connecting rod.
Wonder why did the bearing seize up - perhaps faulty oil pump or....?
will post more pictures when it gets back to the ranch.
Looking forward to it.
they are gonna test it out tomorrow. Very pleased but will be nice when I get to drive it for the first time lol.
