Well finally got enough cash to have the oil pan replaced - this means pulling the engine! The guy doing it is pretty good but wont let me in the shop. Weak! Im pretty worried for my baby, say a prayer guys I also told him to put in my WW thats been sitting in my truck for about 3 months.
Is this a bad idea to do with a truck of 285,000 - is this guy gonna have a really hard time? any other comments / stories will be greatly appreciated ...
So the process has already started? I thought it hasnt and you were worried about who to do it. I'd be leary of a few missing parts if the guy won't let you at least look in a little.
Man, I don't know. At 285k and the engine out, rings and bearings would be real tempting. You can always do the top half later. If you do the rings and bearings now you'd be all set for a long time. Am I wrong suggesting this?
Yea if you get your truck back and it doesn't have the same whistle you can get a new one at wal-mart.
Hope everything goes well and you get another 285,000 on it.
Do you do oil analyses? If the lead or copper count has been getting up, i'd go with Mark's recommendations. You can do an "inframe" without removing the crank if you do rod and main bearings.
I get the feeling your not talking about in the frame of the truck. If you are sayin "inframe" of truck,I just was thinking it would not be too great of an idea.Seeing how you really need to pull the engine for the pan to be placed in correctly. Not to mention the lack of room.Am I being really dumb here,or are we talking about two different things.
It was hard to say it, because i assumed you knew the pan was off to do this, you knew the engine had to come out. Im talking a half-inframe which means keeping the pistons, rods, and crank all in place just sliding in new bearings.

Ok thanks for clearing that up,it was me.Got it now.
