1997, f-350, 7.3 ltr with approx 200,010 miles. I haven't run the truck a lot and recently tried to start it and believe the batteries may need replace. They certainly need a charge. I have a remote start on the vehicle. Utilizing the remote it was cranking but batteries were running down. I tried to turn the key and got nothing, not even a click. Charged the batteries a bit and got some cranking from the remote but again nothing with the key start. I am out of town and will be home soon. Plan on charging and testing the battery's but am confused by the no response from the key.
o the battery's took charge and using the remote I got it started, ran very rough. Shut off and won't start again. Still nothing using the key switch. Where to look for that prob? The switch on the fender
Battery's are serviceable. I can get the truck started with the remote start. How can this PCM be tested? I replaced the solenoid on the fender thinking that might be the problem but still nothing when I turn the key. Rock auto lists an ICM; ignition control module and ecm,; engine control module and a ficm; fuel injection control module
Bypass the remote start by fuse removal or whatever.
Key on, engine off WITH THE KEYS, then jump the solenoid at the fender and let me know what happens. Does it just crank only or click and nothing?
Still no answer on the starter age.........
Are you currently in Alaska? If not, where?
Does not sound like a PCM, nor an IDM issue to me if it actually runs at times. Sounds like a sensor issue or the truck just is not cranking fast enough to light off. What time of day are you trying to start it? Ever tried to plug it in? Do you even know if your glow system is working?
Agree that it’s likely not either computer if you get it running with the remote start.
To be honest, I was surprised to hear about a remote starter on a diesel truck. I’m sure they have them but I’ve never heard of them on an OBS. Regardless, I think your non start issue could be related to the remote starter. Have you thought of removing it all together?
