I have a 2003 Expedition and I had a after market remote start kit installed in Dec of 04. Everything has been working fine with the remore start. About 3 weeks ago my wife got in the car hit the key to start the car and it was dead. Called Ford and they sent a wrecker to take it to the garage the wrecker got there and the car started right up, in between my wife and the tow driver my father in law tried also to no avail. Took it to the dealer and the dealer said everything seemed fine and no starting problems.
Now 2 weeks later it has not wanted to start 2 out of 5 times. You play with the key, hold it to the start position or take it out and try again and it will start.
My question is does this sound like a remote start issue or a ignition / key issue?
The car has 2000 miles left on the factory warrenty, but if they say it is a remote start issue I don't want to get nailed with a unexpected repair bill.
It is just a remote start. It will not start off the key. Doesn't start off the key fob either when the key won't work.
What it seems to do you turn the key and hold it and the led on the dash just turns solid red when it will not start. Turn it back off, take the key out put it back in, turn the key if it still doesn't do anything I just hold it there and sometimes it has taken up to 10 seconds before it would even try to start. Doesn't seem to matter if it is hot or cold. And it does it with both master keys.
Does the remote start have a PATS key inside it? (It must, unless you had the PATS circuit disabled when you had the remote start installed.) Make sure the key isn't touching any metal, if it grounds on anything my understanding is that could interfere with the PATS operation.
