transmission bolts backed out on one side and put trans in a bind. broke center out of flex plate. pulled trans replaced flex plate. guy drove it home about 40 miles. put it in reverse to back in drive and trans cracked on top by tail shaft end and dumped all the fluid. so i pulled it back out and guy had a trans shop take his guts out and install in another case. 150 miles later it cracked again in tail end this time on driverside. any ideas?
Not saying it’s for sure related but did you check the torque converter? Previous rebuild (before I had) put in standard torque converter. It ate 3 flex plates (2 before I had) then tranny before I got figured out.
Did you follow the torque specs and sequence? Only thing I can imagine that far up. It may be worth checking the driveline, I cracked a tailhousing once from a sticky slip yoke.
I replaced a bazillion extension housings (adapter between transmission and transfer case) on GM pickups during my tenure as a technician because of them. Fords have a steel housing though so something else has to give.
