2014 Navigator. Trying to figure out what this **** is for. Below & right of steering wheel. It rotates but nothing happens. Thought it might dim a light, but nothing. No mention of it in the owner's manual. Currently have no back lighting on steering wheel and shifter. Thinking this might tie in with the problem somewhere. Thanks
Just picked this Navigator up a couple of months ago from Insurance auction ( iaai auction ).
Completed body & mechanical work, now working on minor items.
First time I ever owned a Navigator (F-150's and a Expedition in the past), but really happy with this one.
Good point about possibly being aftermarket, I will trace this afternoon. Thanks!
Thanks gashog, that makes sense now. Pulled it out and it had a RJ11 connector (telephone line) that traced back to the rear where an aftermarket amp probably sat. Also found a 2 AWG wire running from the engine bay to the rear also disconnected at both ends. This was most likely the power line. Keeping the disconnected dash **** in so as not to have a hole in the dash. Case solved. Thanks for the help.
So do you have a factory head unit or an aftermarket unit? Would be curious if they spliced into the wiring for the input signal. Wonder if you have any other wires running to the back like rca cables.
A factory head unit. There were 3 wires/cables coming from the back with a separate grounding strap screwed into the floor panel. One wire was a line for power running up to the engine compartment, the 2nd was like a RJ11 telephone type wire going to the **** on my dash, and third was probably an RCA cable (no connectors) and runs up behind the radio unit. Looks like a professional job whoever installed the amp/wiring, but whoever took it out just cut all the cables in the back in order to grab the amp, most likely in the salvage yard.
Right now, the audio/sync/map unit works great and I'm kind of hesitant of digging in behind there and finding a rats nest. But my curiosity will eventually win out and I'll dig in there.
Isn't that **** for quitting the wife down? The more you turn it counter clockwise the more she shuts up! If only we were so lucky.... Don't tell mine I said that!

Dang! We wish I would have known that before disconnecting it!
