While i was at a drive thru i put my truck in park and when i went to leave the shifter would not move at all. I turned the truck off twice and restarted but no luck. I pushed and pushed on the brake and no luck. Then i tilted the steering wheel up and down real hard and the truck died and when i restarted it the shifter worked normaly. Any body else have this problem?.
That happened to me a few years back in an Escort Wagon. The steering wheel was locked.
Play with the steering wheel (turn it back and forth as far as you can) and see if that works.
Mine got stuck last night, I was parked on a steep embankment, but I had read the manual and knew to pop off the shifter cover and push the shifter lock button to release it.
easy guys! when parking the truck or any car. before putting it into park, set the parking brake first.
this takes the load off of the parking pawl in side the trans that causes the binding and hard to remove from park, really makes it seem that it's locked/jambed in to park.
another thing is a blown or cracked fuse for the stop lamp curciut that will also keep you from comeing out of park.
but after all my 42 years in dealer ship/factory service, 90% of the i can't get it out of park complants stopped when the customer started useing the parking brake before engageing park with the shifter. the rest turned out to be fuses or bad stop light switches.
All i know is my 98 expedition that i still drive and all my other cars have never done this. unless i parked on a steep hill or turned the wheel to sharp befor i turned the it off.

you beat me to the punch. most people would be amazed at the stress transmission is assuming by holding your vehicle stopped. always use your parking brake
they will freeze if you have bad cables but not other wise. yes a lot of people don't realize what the size of the parking pall is. it's small enough that it's inside the tail shaft houseing of the trans.
tylus
my navy time was on top of the water .couldn't handle down under like you are doing
i dont know why people dont use it. maybe it comes from driving manual for my whole life but the minute i park that brake comes on without a second thought. i know that i have never had any problems with stuck shifters. whether i am lucky or using the brake helped i dont know but just putting in my observation.
