Check this thread and you will see what wires can be removed along with the external regulator. I also add that a new battery with the dual post set-up works real well with the one wire alt. And are you 100% certain it's a true 1-wire alt and not just an internally regulated alternator that is often called "1-wire" instead?
Sorry if you knew that already and are sure, but more and more of them are being used and a lot of people still don't know the difference.
Which model did you get? A converted Ford unit, or a GM swap?
