I'm experiencing issues with my truck. In fourth gear, and only fourth gear the truck has a vibration as it enters 5th gear and then disappears. It's most noticeable if under an incline load at steady acceleration. It becomes more pronounced. I read somewhere earlier that this is where the torque converter locks, but it doesn't seem normal to me. I've felt shudders from imbalanced wheels before and this one doesn't feel like that. You can feel the vibration through the acceleration pedal, that is how I first noticed it, and I'm ruling out the wheel balance thing because that would persist during a coast at a specific speed, and this one only occurs on the 4th gear upshift.
Another issue which could be related, but has since disappeared is when coming to a complete stop a few times it lurched forward. It happened once in a drive-thru and I thought someone hit my rear-end bumper. I recall experiencing this in my father's Ram like 10 years ago when it had only 20k miles and it ended up being a faulty transmission sensor. It happened about a dozen times randomly but hasn't happened in many months, but the 4th gear vibration is a constant. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi Danny- While I am by any means an expert, I do have access to one. I experienced an issue similar to this in my '95 Grand Marquis. This vibration that you feel, does it feel like driving over a washboard or a cattle guard? If so, it may be a torque converter, as each gear has a different set of clutches, explaining why you only feel it in one gear....hope I am wrong
Maybe someone can tell you how to manually lock out the torque converter on these trucks to test that theory. Or put it in tow/haul mode to see if anything changes?

Interesting concept. I'll put it in tow and experiment. Didn't know there was such a thing as a manual lock out of a T.C. Definitely willing to try anything as I will be going off-grid with this truck for a duration and need to address any potential issues. Wouldn't be fun or cheap to get stuck on the side of a mountain with it.
