99' v10 178k on chassis 3k on engine
Only when it's "cold" in the morning (I live in LA, hence the "cold") my truck stumbles into a start up almost reminds me of a slow gallop. This morning it actually stalled out after the first attempt then fired right up no problem the 2nd start. I have a video but dont know how to post it.
I just put in a new (remaned) long block. Original engine cracked the head. Problem was there with the old engine too.
New fuel pump/filter/pressure regulator
New spark plugs
New IAC
Numerous vacuum lines replaced
New battery
Yes I cleaned the maf.
I think this is kind of a common problem with the older v10s and I cant get an answer. My dad has the same truck same year and his started doing this at about 150k. He has 250k on it now with the same issue and it's never caused an actual problem but it bugs me and i want my truck to actually run and start as intended
Didnt change the relay. I didnt think that would be a probably seeing that my truck starts perfect after the first start of the day and/or if it's over 60°
I have 2001 with only 66k miles. I have the same symptom even if the engine is warm. Actually, it first occurred when my engine was warm. It took like three times to turn over and then it went...and I keep thinking I hear an abrupt "click". So I will check fuel relay, fuel pressure and the MAF, which I have never checked. Actually I have never had a problem with this truck. This truck's whole life has been only for towing a TT. It's mpg is so bad that I really don't use it for anything else. I may need to check that the gas isn't an issue as well. If I figure it out I will post back. Any other hints would be welcome. I actually am cleaning it up to sell, so I do want to get to the bottom of this.
Sounds like some kind of fuel\air mixture problem. Have you checked for codes or have a CEL? Check the air intake for splits or cracks after the MAF. Check the rubber plug for the MAF wires to make sure its fully seated as well.
