I have a 2011 F250, and do a lot of night driving on rural roads and would like brighter headlights if possible - the OEM are good but not great.
I've seen the LED bulbs which are available, but due to LED design vs standard bulb filament location I'm wondering if the LEDs are properly reflected by the OEM reflector to create a good light pattern.
My concern is based on the fact that a standard bulb has the filament held out in front of the reflector so the light can shine back on the reflector 360 degrees around the bulb, whereas the LEDs emit light "sideways" off four sides of the bulb, emitting the light more perpendicular to the reflector rather than back onto it.
If anyone has done the upgrade I'd be interested in their experience. I am not interested in adding LED just so it looks cool, I'd only be interested if the upgrade truly added a substantial amount more lighting, with a good pattern - on both low and high beam.
(I am adding other lights, but am also interested in upgrading the OEM headlights if possible.)
I put the Hella FF75 halogen driving lights (not fog) on my 2000. Gave a good focused beam that most oncoming traffic would not flash me if I did not turn them off. I aimed them to be just above the low beams. Very happy with them. Perfect for the dark country roads. I am going to put them in the same spot on my 2016. They fit nice in the grill on my 2016. I bought them for my 2016 but have not had time to install them yet.
I put Marsauto led bulbs in my stock 2011 F350 headlights; significant improvement in my opinion
just plug and play; simple
before I did that, I tried to improve the headlights by re-aiming them, which I had never done; they were aimed a little too high, so lower them a bit also helped
i have a pair of supernova 4.0s in my 2016. the output is much better then stock and there is a decent pattern. the better brands of LED bulbs only have chips on 2 sides so you can clock the bulb so the light is reflected to the side and the pattern is much better and usable. However im used to HIDs in projectors and so im waiting on my custom lights to come in.

Thanks. Looking at the Marsauto bulbs, I note they have a cooling fan. Some people have complained that they get radio interference, and I note that some bulbs without fans advertise "no fan so no radio interference". I assume you would have mentioned this if you had any problems.

Thanks. I'm planning on a 20" light bar in the bumper opening below the grill. However will definitely not be able to leave it on with oncoming traffic so planning on having it switched with upfitter, plus triggered with high beams. Those are nice small Hellas you have, may consider adding those at some point

I don't want to spend the money on HID so that's out. Wasn't able to find the Supernovas, but I read several reviews that said the Katanas were the same bulb.

I put some VLEDS (and new housings) in my 2000 Excursion. Talk about a WORLD of difference. The VLEDS are on sale until tonight, FWIW. www.vleds.com. It's pricey, but you get what you pay for.
