Has anyone compared the dimensions and forms of the front third of a F-1 or F-2 running board to those of a COE running board? Since the small truck boards are easier to come by than the COE's, I was thinking I could make a good COE running board out of one, no?
Could you cut a section out of the center of the short big truck running boards and weld the back end back on so you would have a rounded, finished end?
Bob what i was looking at was F5 and F6 running boards.
They have the round end for stort style and the difference on fender side can be adjusted with a cut between the curve and the beads.

I found a few on Ebay. I'm going to get one.

Exactly what I was thinking, or any section that would match proportions. I could always cut and wrap the sides around to make the ends.

please take pictures of the process if at all possible...my restomod 55 C600(its on a 2002 E550 Chassis) has the OE steps and the attached running boards but the running boards are religious...you know ' holy" this truck eventually will get the cab extended to make it a 4 door so that running board will have to fit that mod but I (Im sure others too) still would like to see what you come up with and how you did it....it will help me with ideas...

I will keep you apprised. I only intend on doing the passenger (battery) side. There is barely enough Swiss cheese left for a pattern.
The F6 runningboards are really narrow compared to the COE boards. All of the conventional boards have a pretty good taper to them that will make them difficult to modify. You will probably have better luck with F8 boards, as they are about the same width as the COE boards, and have a similar fender mating edge. It will still take some serious fab work to pull it off, though.
I think I remember member 50COE had f1 running boards backwards on his at one point and the rear contour actually matched up very well with the COE fenders. Let me see if I can find the picture.
I think I have a couple of sets of F1 running boards that are in various stages of manglement. They might make good fodder for cutting up and modifying.
If you think that pieces of them might help you out let me know and I'll try and get some pics when I get back to the house this weekend
