A buddy of mine has this car and I was joking to him about racing our vehicles. I was wondering who would win the race if we were to race? Would it be close? Thanks.
You will get KILLED. Even if you have the 4.0 which I couldn't tell. I would assume you do to even consider it. 2000 Maxima has 229 hp and weights about 3100 lbs. 0-60 7.9. 1/4 15's. That's stock of course. Now I know some of you could probably best this but not without a lot of work on your trucks. BTW Hammy211 does not encourage illegal street racing and hopes there is a track nearby. If you have a track you could go out there and then when you are put in diffenent classes you have a decent excuse why he should have expected to beat you.
Well, it also depends on where you race him. Clean dry asphalt? He's got you. A nice trail with some rocks/logs and giant Nissan-consuming mud puddles, you've got him. Or make it a hauling contest. Anybody can go fast. Only some can go fast with 1/2 ton in the back.
Maybe if you added a few more mods you could take him, like a supercharger and NOS. j/k
It really depends on which year of Maxima like Hammy said. Car and Driver recently tested the 2004 Maxima with 260 HP at 6.6 to 60 and 15.0 in the 1/4.
I would think though that adding headers and a Diablo chip might get you closer and at least make it a drivers race.
Just dusted off a Motortrend from May 02, checked in the Road Test Results on an '00, even then with only 222 HP it was good for 6.7 to 60 and 15.1 in the 1/4.
If I were you I'd race him on a rainy or snowy day and Use 4x4. Then he couldn't touch you.
Even a base Maxima would smoke my loaded Ranger. Even with the 207 HP rating this SOHC version of the 4.0 is a total dog off the line. You have to hit nearly 4K RPM before you start to feel it pull any at all. By then, the V6 Maxima would be in the next town.
I say let him dust you like a coffee table, and then challenge him to hook 'em up for a tug-o-war if you want to make it fair.
I had 98 Max with the std trans, traded it to my son for the ranger. the Max will run off and leave ya way to easy.
the 98 Max has 195 HP but it is a runner. He has since added a quick shift, cold air and a freeflow exhaust, its even faster and there is not a chip in it. My ranger has cold air, 2.5 freeflow exhaust, 4.0, 4sp trans, 2wd and it is a runner in its own right and it would not even close and it will bury the needle easy.
You will lose just tryin to shift, long throw, slow engagement points etc.
I thought I would ask the question. Not into racing at all, so needed some input. If we do race, its just for fun and laughs. Both the max and my truck are autos. If that means anything.
