They die sometimes, if you have an XL with the buzzer you can swap the chime from an XLT, it's plug-and-play.
I have the XLT chime, it just is stupid quiet. Once it stops raining here I'm gonna look at it. I'm willing to bet a PO put some tape over the noisemaker so it wasn't dinging constantly waiting for the glow plugs

The different blades are for the different chime triggers, there's a common ground, and then a blade for headlights, a blade for your seatbelt, etc. If you find a buzzer they have less blades (but connect to the same harness) because they aren't triggered if you leave your lights on. The "lights on" warning was the main reason I swapped my buzzer for a chime in my 1995 XL.
