96 7.3l crank but no start
Hi everyone pretty new here hope you guys can help me out. I’ve got a 1996 7.3 with an e40d auto trans. Truck has been awesome until about a week and a half to two weeks ago. Parked the truck, went out next morning to start it and it wouldn’t start. Cranks over good but doesn’t pop or sputter or anything like it’s trying to start. I’ve got white smoke coming out the exhaust which means the injectors are firing right? Did some reading on here and other online sources, as well as talked to my diesel tech teacher about his truck, learned a little about cps and ipr and ips. Replaced my cps with a used but known good black sensor, not the updated grey one. Truck fired right up, ran all day but next day no start. Crawled under the truck and unplugged and replugged cps. Started right up, ran all day. Next morning no start. Tried undoing neg battery terminals and holding them to the positive terminals for a few seconds to drain the capacitors in the ecm to reset it on suggestion from teacher. After unplugging and plugging for several days it’s now no start even when I unplug and plug it back in. Anyone have any ideas? Would really appreciate any help or knowledge you guys could offer

Here is a link to the No Start Flowchart from the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum. There is a lot of other good information in the FAQ.
The flowchart has links in some of the boxes to show you what to do.

You can get codes and live data from the OBDII port under the dash.

Get Forscan on a PC and a Bluetooth OBDII adapter that communicates using the SAE J1850 PWM protocol.
