So Ive got a 2001 7.3. Immediately when i start it jumps straight up to 900-1000 rpm. depending on how cold it is it will idle higher when its colder than if its a little warmer outside. I know they are supposed to stay at about 750 the jump up after a minute or two but this happens immediatly on starting it. Even if i hit the brake and put it in gear the rpm stays the same and just puts it in gear. As the truck warms up the idle very slowly comes down on its own and acts normal. The EBPV has been deleted and i have a tune but even in its stock setting it does this. Is there a sensor or something causing this or has anybody had an issue like this?
Check your Air Intake Temperature Sensor. That is what the PCM uses for the high idle signal.
The IAT signal provides air temperature information to the PCM. The PCM uses the air temperature information to operate the
Exhaust Back-Pressure (EBP) system and to determine the cold idle setpoint. During long idle periods at cold ambient
temperatures, the setpoint will increase engine rpm.
