Funny, I was just making this remark about someone in the 61-66 forum with a similar situation.
You ever tried Belzona, 1111 super metal or similar? It's spendy as hell but I'd consider it a guarantee permanent fix. It's basically what everyone thinks JB Weld should be, I've seen it patch iron pipe, a motorcycle engine casing, etc. It's impressive stuff.
