I posted this in the Super Duty forum section, but haven't gotten any response. I have a 2001 F-350 7.3L crew cab Lariat. The doors automatically lock when I turn the key on. Is there any way to make it NEVER automatically lock? First time it went wrong I went home with a friend from work while the truck idled until I came back (fortunately only around the corner. Hahaha!). Second time, the Ford dealer actually did it while it was in for service. I overheard them trying to sort it out and luckily I'd added a hidden key just for this reason. Anyway. Can this annoying "feature" be removed/defeated? Thanks in advance.
I'm just the opposite, I'd LIKE MY Late '99 TO auto lock at 5mph or when the key is turned on!! I think that's a GREAT feature rather than having to lock doors manually all the time....
Enalbe/disable the autolock feature (another owner’s manual gem):
Deactivating/activating the autolock feature
Before following the procedure, make sure that the ignition is OFF and all vehicle doors are closed.
You must complete steps 1-7 within 30 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, you must wait 30 seconds.
1. Turn the ignition key to ON.
2. Press the power door unlock control three times.
3. Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF.
4. Press the power door unlock control three times.
5. Turn the ignition back to ON. The horn will chirp.
6. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long chirp) if autolock was activated.
Note: Pressing the power door lock/unlock control again will toggle between activating and deactivating the autolock feature.
7. Turn the ignition to OFF. The horn will chirp once to confirm the procedure is complete.
I tried this on my 2000.
It didn't work.
My truck locks automatically within less than a minute after start up.
Drives me I N S A N E .
I carry two complete sets of keys with me whenever using the truck, otherwise I'd be locked out all the time.
As DMD suggested, I do have a fancy Clifford alarm system on the truck, that has a brain the size of the truck's PCM. The solution probably lies somewhere within that thing.

I like my doors locked at all times in event of rollover. Some folks want their doors unlocked at all times. Matter of preference. I like my windows open with an elbow sticking out most of the time. YMMV, etc.
I'm thinking something changed with the 2002 MY with the GEM/VSM changeover. In my case the doors lock automatically at 5 mph (which I like) but if you don't want that simply hit the unlock button. Easy peasy.

Or at the bottom of steep cliff.
There is a way to change that setting in the clifford alarm system. I had one but switched a few years ago to a different brand so I can't remember how it is done but involved using the valet button and the remote and selecting the right setting. You could probably find a copy of the manual online for your system.

I think you are right, mime do the same. In addition, you cannot lock yourself out while the engine is running, you have to lock it with another key.
