When I was at work yesterday I saw a theft recovery 2003 f350 xl superduty pickup that had been stolen and missing for 10 days and about $7000 in tools were taken and the truck was dumped on the streets. The right door lock had been forced and all the pins in the lock were sheared off. The ignition lock bezel had been pried off and the lock had been forced and all pins were sheared off also. just grab the lock remaining and turn the thing just as you would a key. By seeing this I realized that there has to be some kind of tool out there that can do this in short time and away they go in almost the same time as useing a key. Made me get an alarm with kill installed today with all the extras. Sort of scarey how simple the thieves made it look to do. I suggest to all on this forum you get additional theft protection to thwart this. I warned you. Bill
Then I guess I won't tell you how easy it would be to get past the average lock on a home.
Well I will anyways.
They make a battery operated pick gun that will pop most locks in seconds. Less than 5.
Sleep tight!
An average car thief can break-in and jimmy the ignition switch and drive away in under a minute.....usually 30secs or less for experienced guys. HOW you ask?......w/ a flat head screwdiver!
My 2003 CC, 4X4, PSD was stolen in less than 5 minutes. Or should I say that was how long I was in BestBuy. This is why I have good insurance. If they want it, they will take it. Truck was taken to Mexico and never recovered. Kinda glad they did not find it. She would have never been the same.
I am suprised that ford would design a truck that would cost $25000 to $45000 or even $50000 when new that has a easy enough to break lock setup so the thieves can steal it with ease. Living in a bigger city(chicago) I have had a few vehicles stolen and I am now trying to fortify my stuff to make it that much harder to steal. I would bet a parts store sells locks and keys as replacements that are under $50 . Whats the thinking with ford??????? Bill

Ah, Mike?
Got bad news for ya, I reposessed it for the bank. Remember that check that bounced?
KIDDING!
A simple starter disable will keep them from driving off.
Throw a live snake in the cab, that will keep them out.
Works for me...

It's not so much the actuall lock, its the design of the door handle. On my F150 the entire handle is plastic (I think the SD's are too) and the lock is just held in place with a C-clip.
The '05's - and probably earlier - have a "fuel pump shut-off switch" located beneath the glove compartment that interrupts fuel flow after a collision. I don't know whether this is an electrical switch to the computer, or a mechanical valve, but if it is electrical, I would think you could parallel a "kill" switch to disable fuel to the engine.
Does anyone know whether this switch is electrical? At least with a kill switch thieves would have to call a tow truck....
fuel pump is now electric and in the gas tank. the shut off switch shuts off the pump in a severe wreck so it does not pump fuel to feed a fire. There is a button you push to reset this switch. So yes it could be easily wired as a kill switch. bill

i did this to my truck and it works great... i have a state of the art Clifford alarm, the club on the wheel, the kill switch.. Rotweiller in the bed, almost never out of earshot, and almost always armed...... good luck.....
