Led lights

I'm looking to replace the LED lights I have in my mirrors as well as my cargo light with the 3rd brake light.

I would like to change then turn signals as well but I'm not too excited about running a resistor those things get really hot at the last one is that touching some plastic housing and melting it I know I've seen some online a while ago that have built and with resistors I can't seem to find them. Also thinking about changing the headlight led'sBut not too sure the ones I have great cut off But the high beam pattern not too well. Thanks for all your input and advice would love to see photos thanks again.

You don't need a resistor kit for the cargo lights or the clearance lights in the mirrors. You do need one for the turn signal bulb to not have hyper flash though. Check out my LED thread in the 99 to 16 Super Duty Section.

These are the ones I want for the 3157 bulbs in my truck. Expensive as hell but a 3 year warranty with plug in resistors.

https://www.vleds.com/shop-bulb-numbers/3157.html

I found these through PUTCO:

https://www.carid.com/putco/load-res...pn-240006.html

I'm also thinking of buying the MAXGTRs 194 amber LEDs that I have in my cab lights and running them in my mirrors. Here's the link for the LEDs:

Here's the PUTCO plug and play resistor kit for the 194s:

You can also run turn signal LEDs without resistors and have your dealership turn off the hyperflash feature.

Could you turn that off with FORScan? I'll have to check out the FORScan thread.

That would be great if it is possible.

I've been looking at these H13/9008s for my truck. I like the lifetime warranty and they have pretty good reviews from Ford truck guys.

https://gtrlighting.com/gtr-lighting...rd-generation/

I also found these guys and this is what they say about the color of LED lighting.

https://www.bajadesigns.com/science-...k-daylight.asp

While they don't make LED automotive bulbs for replacement, they do have what appears to be kick @ss auxiliary lighting. In this area, you get what you pay for. I know the Amazon bulbs are cheaper and made in China, but we'll see how long they go.

I don't know. I don't have Forscan even though a few times I've thought about getting it. I can just confirm that the hyperflash can be turned off because I had my dealership turn mine off during a visit for another issue. They didn't charge me anything as it was a quick change on top of the other job they were doing.

I know some may question the wisdom of turning off that feature, but I managed without it for decades of driving and LED's should last a whole lot longer than standard filament bulbs.

I'm a little suspicious of these just based on their written description. They claim these, "use less wattage, and less Lumen than others but create significantly more light!" That doesn't make sense to me because the Lumen is the measure of light output and not energy consumption. I don't know how they could say their bulbs use less Lumens. I'm also suspicious of their claim that it's the brightest on the market with only 1800 Lumen output per bulb. If their bulbs are more focused and aim better, I could see them getting by with a little lower lumen output, but 1800 versus many that are 8,000 is a huge difference.

Let me ask you something if you don't mind. Awhile back, I pulled one of my rear OEM 3157 bulbs, turned KOEO, tested the signals to see if I would get a hyperflash and I did not. Is it possible it's not turned on in my truck?

I'm still in the research phase for LED headlight bulb replacements. Plus with the snow we get here, I would have to try to find something to spray on them to keep it from building up on the housings. Thanks for your input.

Thank you Sir...

I'm just gonna have to get one of those ELM327 OBD2 adapters and buy FORScan to start doing this stuff. Even though I have the SOOT LOAD % PID on my iDash, I'll enable my 3rd screen anyway and look at that hyper flash function. Thanks again.

Error Free Canbus Ready Red LED Brake Parking Tail Stop Turn Signal Light Bulbs DRL Parking Lamp No Hyper Flash All in One With Built-In Resistors (3157)

Led's are great but the heat signature is 👎 And this time of the year snow just builds up I have not found anything to put on the headlights to keep it from accumulating when we go to the snow.
Maybe I'll just tie the kid on to the herd and give him to squeegees 😁

The only concern I see with the resistor is one person said it still gets warm but out of personal experience those things get screaming hot so hopefully the case that encloses the resistor works there's still plenty of Room to tuck it behind metal. I'd love to get the ones for the Amber of front.

Yeah, the snow issue I'm familiar with. I keep my OE headlight bulbs in my truck in case I get caught in a heavy snow condition, but that's certainly not an ideal solution. I've tried RainX on the headlight covers, but that didn't work well enough. I may try my Liquid Glass car polish that I use on my Mustang since I haven't found another good coating yet. I wish there was a good snow solution like a small heat generator that would compensate for the LED's low heat.
