I've been thinking about attempting to install a Double Din head unit in my 97 F-250HD. I started doing some research yesterday when I came across this Metra 95-5701. I will need cut part of the dash(as expected) to install it.
Has anyone used this dash kit? Or can recommend another option?
Haven't done that, but interested in what you have planned for speakers. My 88' resto is ready to get some stereo love. I am going retro with a single din replacement 'super tuner' cassette deck from yesteryear. Can you tell me where the second set of speaker wires terminate? I have the two speakers in the doors but the truck (XLT Lariot ) is wired for four speakers. Where to find the other two wires?

I'm not certain on the 88. But if it's anything like me 97 the rear speakers will be located behind the seat.

A single din radio doesn't require dash modifications.
I currently have an aftermarket single din that I installed a few years ago.
I've considered the type like you have, with the pop-up display, but personally I'm not a fan of the way they look.
The kit I posted should look like this once installed
And this is what needs to be cut out
I like the way the OBS Interiors kit looks. Very clean and nearly stock appearance. The Metra kit looks like it works but not very pretty. I just can't bring myself to cut the dash. Seen enough vintage cars with hacked up dashes to accommodate aftermarket radios. Someone hacked the dash in my classic Mustang for a tape deck. Luckily there is a patch panel for its metal dash. I'm not sure how one would go about reversing a double din on these trucks though.

It does look like a clean approach to installing a modern touchscreen radio but that isn’t for me. On Jeep Forum, I see a lot of dashboards cut for a DIN radio. Fortunately mine was not hacked up. I don’t see how you could reverse cutting up a plastic dash. I’m not sure how good epoxy would hold it together.

In the summer heat or winter cold I can see the repair failing. Some will see it as an upgrade and some won't. It would be nice to have, but isn't for me either.

I'm with you. I think the OBS interiors kit looks nice but I wouldn't want to cut my dash. It'd be nice to have a more modern stereo but that's just part of having an old truck. I really just like the look of the factory head unit.
I used a flip down screen in one of my trucks. It turned out pretty good i think. I just trimmed the xlt snap in strip down and had to leave the headunit out of the dash a little so the back of the screen rests against the platstic dash structure that would normally sit behind the plastic snap in strip. Theres enough room that it doesnt cover the heater controls. Ill try to post links of the units ive found and maybe i have a picture of mine.
This is the one i used. Quality is about a 5 out of 10 but its been working for about 3 years now without issue. Backup camera, dvd player, bluetooth phone and radio are my normal uses.
