Sync 4inch display question, not sync 3 2018 SD

Does anyone know if i can install the apple car play app on my sync, tried searching here and the interweb and have not found any info on if and how i can install apps on my sync.
If i cant install car play, are there other apps i can install, and if so where do i get them from and how do i install them.

Thanks

It has no upgradability that I am aware of, best to rip it out and put a modern after market head unit in.

There are several aftermarket black box type CarPlay systems being sold out there but none of them are actually Apple approved and will not give you any control from your 4" screen. You could upgrade your vehicle to a 8" sync3 system but the cost is very high. I also would suggest a good quality aftermarket radio and dash kit to get you what you want. You could look at Crutchfield.com to get an idea what would be needed and what would fit your vehicle. You will need a head unit, interface adapter, dash kit, and maybe something else but they will show you all that.

I went this route. Costs a little under $1k to get wireless CarPlay via the Alpine-107 and idatalink interface plus dash kit.

I prefer the factory Sync 3 versus the Apple Car Play actually. You can switch from the Ford IPhone App features to Apple Car Play. I did and switched it back. Why do you prefer the Apple Car Play? Maybe I'm not utilizing it to its full potential.

Thanks guys, yeah i was afraid of that.. last time i replaced the head unit on my last truck i had a few thousand into the project.. you know a few subs, several amps,a bunch of speakers, fat cables, 4 gauge power cables, head unit adapters and on and on.
When i sold the truck they got the system for free.

Thanks

I like that the Alpine HU does not require your phone to be plugged in to use Carplay.
