I've looked at GV and 4l80e's for a few years now, you're either spending big money on the adaptor kits and using a used trans in unknown condition or spending big money on a GV unit. I think if you were going as low buck as possible, getting a screaming deal on any used GV and then having it rebuit and buying the correct adapter would spread out the cost/pain but might be more of a headache in the long run as opposed to just saving up and getting new. They sell everything to move it to future projects as well if you sell the truck and want to keep it.
Ultimately, I decided to change the gearing in my dana 60 from 4.10's to 3.54's and see how the np435 does at speed with that.

Scotty1, I would like to hear how you like the gear change. I'm swapping in a NP435, into my '64, and I've been pondering changing the gears from 4.56 to 3.54.

Well, I'd love to have that Wilcat setup with the 4L60E auto trans for interstate driving locally behind a '69 Olds 455 marine engine. ( I happen to have ). haha
What my next repower will occur in if I can sell off some vehicles and open up my shop, would be a 455 Olds marine engine into a '57 ****** utility wagon.
The Wilcat adaptor kit would be sweet. The 4L60E trans are a dime-a-dozen at our local Pick-n-Pull yard on a 50%-off day.
