Any idea what that is? It comes up with code 67:
neutral drive switch open or AC on
clutch switch circuit failure
MLP sensor out of range, or AC on
654 MLP sensor not in park position
E40D
Does anybody know what this means?
If you missed my other post, it's an 89 F250 w/a new 351w motor, but won't start -- sounds like it's gonna, but doesn't fire up. Thanks for any help.
Nevermind. I think I answered my own question - it's transmission related, but unfortunately doesn't seem to be my problem. I'm hoping it's the TP sensor - going to take a look at that now.
yeah other than the fact the computer may think the engine is still in gear causing the motor not to start, I think it is the tps. Let us know what you come up with
I did some quick looking and it seems a bad tps would cause hesitation when braking or poor idle quality. So I guess it could be your problem. Did your truck operate okay before the new engine? This is a long shot make sure your a/c is off as well as everything else then unhook your battery for a little while 15 minutes or so and then reconnect it and see if it starts. This is a long shot but hey its free to try. Good luck
No, it didn't run ok before the new motor - high idle, no power, etc. The previous owner checked and replaced alot, but never figured it out, just gave up and bought something new.
I keep thinking I'm missing something simple. I'll let you know how I make out with the tps - going out to work on it now.

What you just described are symptoms of a bad tps sensor, I read what you just posted elswhere just didn't post those symptoms in the last post, guess I should have. Looks like you need a tps sensor, weather that is the startup problem or not, probably is. Later hope this helps
No luck. I put the tps from another Ford in to see if that would do it -- cleared the codes, but didn't solve the start up problem. Still sounds like it should turn over fine, but doesn't start. I gave up and had it towed - I'm hoping that a more sophisticated computer and somebody new to it will find something.

Thats why I posted the above but I guess I should have been more specific, I am very interested in the diagnosis myself. Wonder why people don't like efi systems? Do you think 20 years from now people with consider the current efi a piece of cake to work on? I would hate to see what the current automotive technology is then. Last I heard they are wanting to make it were the frame/ drivetrain is universal and a person can change the body instead of buy the whole vehicle. Makes you wonder huh? Later
Thanks for your help. To keep you updated, it was the catalytic converter. I thought that could have been the problem, but took it partially off (didn't follow the pipe and go all the way though), and missed it. TPS was bad too, but not the main problem. No more codes are showing up and it runs great...finally.
