hey guys got a few questions concerning some basic electrical id appreciate some other advice on. so essentially im swapping a 78 f150 cab onto my 74 highboy frame to use the power brake booster mounting and ac box and plumbing. when i picked up the donor cab it was stripped a while back and basically the harness was completely clipped coming out of the cab. when this cab gets swapped i would like the wiring as simple as possible as its getting a different drive train as well,i plan on using a single wire gm style alternator.would there be any issue on my feed if i was to just simply disconect the voltage regulator and factory alternator connections or would i have to worry about routing power elsewhere in the cab if i bypass it? also i would like to use my 74 gauge cluster with this cab and there is a different connector for the 78 gauge cluster,is it realy as simple as cut and splice or do i have to worry about interchangability issues? thanks!

Cant answer all the questions but if there is gauges in one cluster for ALT an OIL and the other has electric gauges there will be differences even in the wiring to the solenoid an alt harness in the engine bay but I cant remember all the difference and the cluster plugs are different and will not swap ,,so I hope your clusters are the same or your in for issues,,the years will swap but if one has idiot lights an other gauges is an issue
that is true ill have to double check tonight, when i went to remove the 78 cluster it turned into powder in my hands so i got a little rowdy with it on removal lol
Ah the ol dreaded dusty instrument cluster.. Yes there is a wiring difference in warning light versus gauges harness. And yes there is a pin count difference in the older cluster verses the newer one. I'd put the old complete wiring harness in the replacement cab and go from there. To remove the voltage regulator, pretty sure you have to do a 3G alternator upgrade. Lots of threads about it.
