i bought a 77 f150 ranger as a parts truck a couple of months ago as most (all) of the sheet metal was in much better shape than my truck 78 f150 xlt. i plan on swapping out the front end and bed and have been thinking about the cab as well. a few questions about the swap. first after tearing into the parts truck i found that the drivers side floor panel is rusted from the inside out. the passenger is not as bad but figured why not do both at the same time. however the cab corners are good. on my 78 the floor panels are good but the cab corners are toast. which are easier to replace? secondly my 78 has ac and the 77 does not. anything i need to know about swapping the cabs? how much different are they if at all? the ac currently does not work so i am not worried about that.
The wiring is different fron 77 to 78 so you would have to change out all the cab wiring. If you wanted to save the ac it would probably be easier to cut the firewall section out of the cab with the ac and weld it into the non ac cab. Personally I wouldn't bother with this swap. Switching cabs is a lot of work. I'd have to have a rust free cab with the ac to justify all the work.
It would be easier to fix cab corners, as opposed to floors (IMHO). I wish that my truck only needed the cab corners, but sadly mine has rusty cab corners, rusted floors...Hell...even the backyard patch panels that someone put in the truck are even half rotten. Plus the wiring is already totally screwed. Take it from me...don't swap cabs unless you really have to. It can be a real bitch. The only reason that I have decided to swap mine is because the cab that I got with my parts truck is damn near flawless.
im actually getting ready to swap cabs on my 73 with one from 79. the 79 is only needing cab corners. my 73 is gone, floors, cab corners, both front mounts. part of the front cab on the driver side. im not worried about the wiring, my 73 has no options on it. i have less than a dozen wires to worry about...im only curious as to how much an empty cab weighs

I think the cabs are around 400-500lbs, but I'm not sure.
I have a 79 cab that I will be putting on my 73. I would agree with the weight it’s around 400 to 500 lbs. I have been struggling with the issue how to get on the frame currently I am looking at jacking the cab up and place 4x6 blocks under it roll the frame and lower down. This will be time consuming but I do not have any better ideas

Me and 3 other teenagers once changed a cab on a 73 f100 that i rolled by lifting it from each corner but I wouldnt recomend it. Maybe set it on saw horses or jackstands.
Not to hi-jack the thread but I've got a '73 2wd frame that needs a new body. I've found a body for a '79 4wd. Both single cab SWB. Not sure if it was a high boy as the entire drive train has been removed. If it's not a high boy will it bolt right up?
