Hey folks, Does anyone have any info on swapping My 79 regular cab F250 4x4 for a 79 F? Crew cab 2 wheel drive. Both have 4 speed's/351m400's. I plan on unbolting front clip, junking both box's and using my dog house cover. Unbolt the master from the booster. I'm not sure If the Crew cab (4door) use's the same 4 bolting locations as the regular cab of the same year. I'm also not sure which wiring harness i should use, reg. cab's or the crew cab's. For the rear mounts i'll be able to get. I've just never done this before basically, and not by myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated !
thanks again.

I dont know about the reg cab & crew cab differences, I'm assuming they would be different, but as far as the wire harness go. I swapped a 79 2 wheel to my 78 4x4 & my instrument cluster had all the gauges. The parts cab had dummy lites and the plug was different. I pulled the wire harness from original cab and put it back in to accomodate the gauges. It wasn't that hard to do. I surprised myself. If clusters are different keep the harness that goes with the one your gonna use. Good luck. I'm sure someone will be along here shortly with more info.
I dont know... i'm pretty sure that the front cab mounts would be the same... and that the ones behind them.. rear on regular cab would be same as the middle ones on a CC. haha Now i'm worrying if i can do it. Do you guys also think a bob cat could lift either one of the cabs or will it not be able to hold the cab far enough away from itself?

The lifts.
Bobcat will be more than enough. Be sure to wrap the cabs front to back on each side, NOT thru the windows. Strap them underneath, just inside the rockers but outside the cab perch in front and just inside the hanging down cab corner in back, go up the firewall and up the back and across the roof. You will have two loops then. Connect the loops over the front of the roof, 2 inches back from the top of the windshield on the regular cab and about where your but sits on the crew cab. Nylon strappng about as heavy duty as your seatbelts will be more than enough.
The mounts.
The front frame cab perches are the same.
The rear cab crossmember on the regular cab frame will be fine when you set the crewcab down. That crossmember is a dummy crossmember on the crew cab frame so no harm no foul. However, you will need to cut and paste the crew cab's rear cab mount frame perches from your old frame. (Hopefully they are in good shape) You also will have odd frame angles but can fix that with rear perch placement or not worry too much over it if you are doing a custom bed anyway.
The brakes and firewall are the same regular to crew but going F250 to Crew may give you a few stwists in line routing and such. Nothing impossible.
Hey thanks allot Mike.
I think for line routing the only problem i'll have is A. the brake/fuel line on the drivers side. and B. the fuel tank, which i'll have to probably run behind the rear bumper or maybe i could reuse the CC's gas tank not sure about the inlet placement though.
Any one think i can do this in a few weekends as i'll be at a friends place and although he's wicked understanding i never like to push my boundaries?! basically I'm fishing for the extra push to say yes to this job. haha.
I did my cab swap on my weeks vacation. Never took a vehicle apart in my life. I lost alot of time running to get this & that, and I also replaced my exhaust system and brake lines, and replaced front and rear glass. A couple of days it rained part of the time. You should be able to knock it out in a couple weekends no problem. I rented a forklift for $90 because I did this in my narrow driveway, but a bobcat should have the same results. If you lookin for a shove? I say do it. You'll learn alot and amaze your friends and family. You can do it!!! You can do it!! You can!! You can!!
