The service advancetrac indicator came on and will not stay off. Is there a way to retrieve a code telling me where to look without going to a ford dealership. That shop is over 100 miles away. Ford F150, XL, with 81,000 miles
Thanks

Any auto store should be able to read the codes for you for free

So the next question is about driving this with the icon lit, I return from work tomorrow, the truck is parked awaiting my return. 120 mile from home and tools. I can have it checked and hopefully buy the part. Is it safe to drive 120 miles home?
From all I’ve ever read th service advance track can be a few different things. In my case it was a new epas rack. My bad I’ll break it down electronic power steering assist rack.
The damn thing went away again. I hope I can get it read without the icon lit up. I don't have a for dealer in town or possibly anyone able to retrieve the codes
So I started this thread and have come to a resolution.. I can finally contribute something useful. Here goes;
1) Autozone or other shops can't read this for free, at least where I live 2) Local mechanic with a Snap on code reader retrieved 3 codes. I for get the exact numbers but all indicated that they needed to be rest by Ford. We reviewed a bunch of Service Bulletins and the consensus was that the ABS module needed reflash. 3) He managed to reset 1 code but I made a service appointment headed to Ford for the reset 4) Ford ticket indicated C1963 & C1282 codes. TSB indicates reprogram ABS module 5) $158.47 later all codes reset and Advancetrac light is out
Lost of confusing information on these but it appears that it is a very common prob that is proprietary and the dealer shop is the only place to get it resolved. But it can affect many of the onboard sensors such as in the steering system
