I checked on the site to see for a realted topic and did not find it so, i will just ask.
I have a 99' SD 7.3PSD. At about 166,628 miles the Service engine soon light came on. I have had the truck for about 60,000 miles and have had it serviced and regulary change the oil. This is the first time the light has come on. When I turned the truck off and restarted it at the gas station the light did not come back on.
Is this some thing to worry about? The truck never has given me any problems and runs fine except for the occosional skip.
Thanks,
PS I have it tuned for "TOW PREF" with the superchip 1705
I don't know if your tuner has the ability to read codes, but did you try to see what code was thrown? If it doesn't come back, I wouldn't worry about it, but if it does, use a code scanner to see what the DTC is.

The light did not come back on and i just got off the phone with teh the Ford dealer and they said not to worry about it too. I had a 30,000 mile service about 9,000 miles ago and plan on having another when the 30,000 passes.
The only thing I could think of then is you overboosted the engine (above 24PSI) and set off a code for that. I do that quit a bit in my truck with the Predator, and as soon as you shut off or wait for about 5 minutes the codes go away. Did you tag the throttle really hard before or around the time the light came on?

I just had the same thing happen to my 2000 F-250 , only thing different was that the engine ran rough for about 2 miles until I could shut it down, and then just as suddenly it was gone. Thats what brought me to this site ( cool by the way), I added some injecter cleaner and cleaned and reinstalled the K&N air filter and seems to be running fine. I have just over 100,000 miles and would appriciate any advise.
sounds like the previously stated over boost. when the turbo is pushing 24-30 psi (depends on the truck) it will kick on the SES light. Not a big worry unless you are doing it all the time. The cylinder heads cannot take the pressures much higher then that for long. I wouldn't worry about it.

My two cents...get rid of the K&N. Next time you have your airbox open, check the intake tube to the turbo and see if there's any grit or other fine dust in there. The K&N is somewhat notorius for not making a clean seal with the stock airbox and allowing fine dust and other nasty stuff into your turbo. The best bet would be to replace the stock box with a Ford AIS severe duty airbox, or replace the intake with a Tymar (or similar) open intake.
Thanks to all for you're advise, turns out it's a short in the harness under the valve covers all the injectors passed test ,local diesel guru dude finaly tracked down the gremlin also said that might be a good idea to change the glow pulgs while he was in there but I am not alltogether sold on the Idea, about how much should such a job cost? doesnt seem to dififcult considerd doing it myself but no time.

If you knew how much of a PITA it is to get to the glow plugs and the valve covers are already off.... approve the glow plug replacement.
