So recently i got in to a bit of an accident with my 75 f250 and i drove it home, but in order for my power steering to work i have to push the accelerator. i could have my clutch in and still have to push the accelerator with my clutch in for steering to work. any ideas? already checked the belt, it’s not loose.
WAG is either the belt is too tight now causing the pump to not spin well and thus higher rpms gets you enough pressure in the pump to work. Or the accident damaged the pump pulley somehow. Other than that with an accident, I'd check over everything steering related to see if anything is damaged.
2wd or 4wd? So you are saying at idle RPM no power steering, high RPM yes on having power steering.
Did the accident involve any type of force-able push hit/blow/wack to either of your front tires/wheels?
Did you notice during that accident if the steering wheel spun like crazy. I am sure your were busy trying to avoid dying. But like when you smack a curb and the tire makes the steering wheel spin (on a none p/s truck)?
Did you see any sign of p/s fluid pushed/forced out the p/s pump after the accident?
Did you check your p/s pump fluid level? I am sure you did, I have to ask.
Did the steering box/steering linkage receive any damage?

My drag link is bent, rn i am thinking that is the problem. not sure if trucks from my year are supposed to be bent or not. and yeah checked fluid and pump and no leakage. Checked my axle and it’s still in the same spot on my leaf springs, didn’t move.
