Aerostar Tuning Performance

Hello. Looking to possibly Chip my 1997 4.0L. Has anyone done anything like this in the past? How has it affected the van? Looking to improve HP and Torque for pulling my boat. Theres What Im looking at:

https://www.performancechiptuning.co...obd2-for-ford/

I have done the spark plugs, wires, O2 sensor, rebuilt transmission, and all synthetic fluids, that have been suggested. Also upgraded Exhaust System as well. Still looking for a little more when pulling.

Thanks in advance.

What upgrade have you done to your exhaust?

In general, the only time a new EEC tune is beneficial is when you've made significant changes to all the basics of the engine such that the stock tune can no longer compensate for the changes. That means significant improvements in flow through a bigger intake manifold, bigger ports and valves in the heads, and higher lift cams, and then high flow headers and exhaust system. These changes would then require bigger fuel injectors and MAF sensor, which then would require new EEC tune to accommodate.

Just changing the tune on an otherwise stock engine is not going to net any real benefits.

If you can find a tuner to fit, you can make some decent gains, even with a factory stock engine. Ford leaves a lot on the table when they put these out, so a well planned revision of fuel and spark curves can do wha you need. Changing the diff will help you van pull better, but mileage is going to suffer.

The basic problem with engines available in the Aerostar is airflow, or the lack thereof. It's like souping up any other engine: The first thing it needs is a better exhaust system that will allow better flow. Then improve the intake for better flow. THEN update the computer tune to accommodate the changes. If you just do the last thing, it won't gain much.
